Sri Lanka's hopes for a Test win in doubt as Angelo Mathews ruled out of Brisbane Test

Former Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews played a crucial inning in the 1 st Test against New Zealand to get Sri Lanka a respectable draw.

He was unbeaten in second inning in 1 st match and also in  1st inning of second Test.

But as soon as we all started thinking he is back with proper fitness level ,we all were proved wrong as Hamstring problem of Angelo started troubling him again in second inning which made him retire due to injury.

He could never step back to the crease.

Unluckily for Sri Lankans it will not be the only match that Angelo Mathews will not be seen as he has been advised to stay away from the game for nearly 8 weeks and he will miss the two limited over series and 1 st Test against Australia as per the news.

He was not a part of the limited over side due to his fitness issues highlighted by coaching staff and management and he was ready to come back to New Zealand series with some new inclusion to the squad.

But he was a regular part of the Test team and we expect that Dhananjaya De Silva could replace him for the first Test against Australia.

We wish him a fast recovery.

It was a kind of an even day for both  India and Australia when considering the 4 th day performances.

But surely India is on top by far with Aussies requiring 141 runs to win by only having 2 wickets in hand,

What went wrong for Australia was their poor show in 1 st inning. If not for that it was a game well balanced for both teams.

Earlier in the day India decided to declare their inning at 106 for 8 with an lead of 398.

In reply Australian top order could not show much of a fight as they were 135 for 5 wickets at one stage.

2 nd Test Sri Lanka vs New Zealand:4 th day analysis

Similar to the 1 st Test  many people expected that this Test match could be over by 4 th day assuming based on the situation at the end of 3rd day.

But Century Partnership from Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal helped Lankans to take it to the 5 th day by loosing only 6 wickets.

Sri Lanka was going well until the injury of Angelo Mathews .But the injury to the former Sri Lankan captain who was unbeaten in last 2 innings gave an oppurtunity to get an opening and with that New Zealand managed to take 4 wickets in the day.

Sri Lanka need further 429 runs to win with 4 wickets in hand.

Neil Wagner is the highest wicket taker as per now in the 2 nd inning as he has taken 3 wickets for 47 runs.

2 nd Test Sri Lanka vs New Zealand:Live updates

Another day and another good comeback by Sri Lankan batsmen as two of their relatively experienced batsmen Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal was able to build another century Partnership to add on some respect to the score board.

But eventually Kusal Mendis threw his wicket for 67 runs to a ball of Neil Wagner,

Now Sri Lanka are 128 for 3 wickets and 532 runs away from their target.

Batsmen in the middle Dinesh Chandimal scored  very good half century and Anjelo Mathews who just came to the crease is on 2.

Target still looks so far away from Sri Lanka and they will need a very special inning of atlest 200 plus runs from one of their batsmen to get this chase down.

1 st Test Pakistan vs South Africa:Match analysis

It was a short Test match to start a very exciting series but nevertheless a very good one.It was always expected to be a game between 2 best bowling line ups and they did not dissapoint us.

Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first on a seamer friendly pitch and could not get a very big score on board as they were bundle out for 181 .

But Pakistan bowlers bowled well and did put lots of pressure on South African batsmen to start up with. But contribution from tail enders of South Africa helped them to get very important 42 runs lead.

In second inning Pakstan got a good Start and looked like they are ready for a big inning with half century from Imam. But they dissapointed the expectators by getting out again for 190.

The chase of 149 was not a very big task for South Africa as they slowly and steadily acheived the target by having 6 wickets still in hand.

It was a great game of cricket for Bowlers from both teams and we expected more spicy contest over next month and for that Pakistan batting order will have to get their basics right.

Match summary is as follows:

PAKISTAN (1 st inning)                                      181-10(47 overs)

Babar Azam              71                                    D.Olivier      6-37

SOUTH AFRICA(1 st inning)                              223-10(60 overs)

Temba Bavuma         53                                    M.Amir        4-62

PAKISTAN(2nd inning)                                       190-10(56 overs)

Shan Masood            65                                     D.Olivier      5-59

SOUTH AFRICA(2 nd inning)                             151-4(50.4 overs)

Hashim Amla           63*                                    S.Masood      1-6

Peter Handscomb's hopes on Test Comeback

Peter Handscomb showed up a special performance at Big Bash League yesterday after he was kept out from the test team due to his poor form in Tests.

Not only that Australian Cricket board was keen to add another Seaming allrounder to the team so they decided to add Mitchelle Marsh instead of Handscomb.

But Handscomb was not frustrated over the decision and he said :

''Team balance was a big thing for the squad and we have seen we really need Mitch Marsh to bowl those overs''

He has scored only one 50 in last 15 innings and he said he is  trying to get away from his Poor form and has talked about it with their head Coach.

There were some talks about taking Handscomb back to the test team for 4 th Test. But Handscomb believe Mitch will be preferred over him if pitch is flat and Spinning.

He admitted that it is hard to comeback on back to Test Squad but he is determined to put his hands up and work on getting back to the side.

1 st Test Pakistan vs South Africa:Live updates

South Africa are 84 runs away from winning the 1 st Test here at Super Sports Park with 9 wickets still in hand.

This match seems like ending up as a very short Test match with indifferent conditions.

South Africa got a chase of 149 runs to win after Pakistan were bowled out for 190 runs yesterday for their second inning.

Pakistan got a good start when Aiden Markram was bowled out for a duck by Hasan Ali.

But the current pair at the crease has built on 65 runs partnership to get South Africa closer to a win.

Current pair at the crease are Hashim Amla on 34 and Dean Elgar on 27.

Pakistan will have to show something really special to get a win here and it is not still impossible if they can get an opening.

3 rd Test India vs Australia :Live updates

India managed to bowled out Australia for 151 runs to get a huge 1 st inning lead of  292 runs going into the second inning.

Jasprit Bumrah was the main wicket taker who helped them to get a big lead as he took 6 wickets for just 33 runs.

But India did not enforce the follow on and decided to bat again and extend their lead before they put Australia to bat again.

Playing in the second inning India has now scored 26 for no wickets

Batsmen batting at the crease are Hanuma Vihari on 12 and Debutant Mayank Agarwal on 14

India has incresed their lead upto 318 runs and any lead over 400 would surely be a huge task for Australia as we reckon.

2 nd Test Sri Lanka vs New Zealand:Live updates

New Zealand did finally decided to declare their inning after a very dominant display of batting in their second inning.

They managed to score 585 runs for 4 wickets before they decided to declare and put Sri Lanka into bat.

In New Zealand second inning Tom Latham scored another beautiful inning of 176 runs and Henry Nicholls scored 162.

Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars:Match update

Finally Melbourne Stars managed to get their 1 st win in the tournament by beating Sixers today very comfortably here at Sydney.

Earlier in the day Melbourne stars won the toss and decided to put Sixers into bat first.

But Sixers could not get somewhere even closer to a Par score as they could only get 130 in their 20 overs by loosing nine wickets.

Coleman and Sandeep Lamichhane bowled pretty well  for Stars by taking 3 wickets and 2 wickets respectively to restrict Sixers for 130.

In reply Melbourne Stars reached the targt in just 14.5 overs with 5 wickets still in  hand.

Peter Handscomb who recently joined Stars showed his worth by scoring 70 runs off just 35 balls and  received a well deserved Man of the match title.

SYDNEY SIXERS                                         130-9(20 overs)

Jordan Silk           41                                  J.Coleman      3-18

1 st Test Pakistan vs South Africa:Live updates

It is the second day 3 rd session here at Super Sport Park as Pakistan is fighting out their second inning at 130 for 3 wickets.

Earlier in the day South Africa managed to end up at 223 for all 10 wickets and  got a valuable 42 runs lead in this pitch.

In reply Pakistan batsmen are showing much more application and intent and showing a much better performance here.

Pakistan are currently leading by 88 runs and we think any lead above 240 here would certainly give them a good chance of winning this one.

Batsmen batting at the middle for Pakistan are Shan Masood on 48 and Asad Shafiq on 6.

Earlier in the inning Imam Ul Haq scored 57 runs to get Pakistan the start they needed before he was bowled by Oliver.

Surprisingly Oliver has taken all 3 wickets in the inning upto now  for just 32 runs and he is seriously edging over his senior partners Steyn and Rabada.

1 st Test Pakistan vs South Africa:Live updates

It is the morning session of second day here in Super Sport Park as South Africa is building up their reply to the Pakistan 1 st inning score of 181.

South Africa has currently scored 146 runs for 6 wickets and trail Pakistan score still by 35 runs.

Batsmen at the middle are Temba Bavuma on 47 and Quinton De Kock has just joined him after the wicket of  Dale Steyn who was just out to a ball of Hasan Ali.

Both teams look even in their performances upto now as both teams struggled in batting and both teams bowled pretty well in conditions favouring to bowlers.

Only Bavuma and De kock can be the difference between 2 teams and even the 40 odd runs lead could be very crucial for South Africa if they can get that.

In Pakistan point of view they should try to get another opening here and attack lower order to get a 1 st inning lead.

Watch the live score now on our score box and we will come back again with further updates!

3 rd Test India vs Australia:Live updates

Australia managed to take 3 wickets for 68 runs after the massive partnership between Pujara and Kholi.

However Kholi who was aiming up another 100 here could not reach there as he was dismissed by Mitchelle Starc for 82 runs.

Pujara was also  dismissed by Pat Cummins for 106 runs and Rahane was dismissed finally by Nathan Lyon who is bowling pretty well  but who could not take a wicket earlier due to poor fielding by Aussies.

India has currently scored 369 runs for 5 wickets and batsmen at the middle are Rohit Sharma who is on 30 and Pant who is on 2.

Another 50 to 60 runs here will surely put India in a strong position and sometimes we would even see a declaration after 400 as we assume it as a good score here on this pitch and as we are already closing up to the end of second day .

2 nd Test Sri Lanka vs New Zealand :Live updates

It is the 3 rd session of the second day here at Christchurch as New Zealand are leading towards a dominant position by extending their lead upto 226 runs now.

In reply to New Zealands 1 st inning of 178,Sri Lanka were only able to add 104 runs to the scoreboard and gave New Zealand a lead of 74 runs.

With that confidence in hand,New Zealand batsmen came to the crease and executed themselves well to take the game on from 1 st ball.

They have currently score 152 runs in the second inning for just 1 wicket and Batsmen at the middle are Tom Latham on 49 and Kane Williamson on 23.

Dilruwan Perera was able to dismiss Jeet Raval earlier for 74 runs.

3 rd Test India vs Australia:Live Updates

Cheteshwar Pujara gets another century in the tournament as he gets his 17 th  hundred in his Test Career.

The century from Pujara(104*) and 71* from Kholi has now extended their 1 st inning score to 280 runs for 2 wickets and has started taking India into a dominating position.

This looks like a very good pitch for batsmen by seeing the way these 2 are able to dominate the bowlers but we are expecting more assistant for  bowlers going into the end of the test.

Anything above 400 here will give India the upper hand and Australia will surely have to show something really special to get back into track again.

3 rd Test India vs Australia:Live updates

India is having a very good time here at Melbourne as they have been able to extend the score upto 247 runs for 2 wickets as per now after 105 th overs of the inning.

The two batsmen at the middle  Pujara who is on 83 and Virat Kholi on 61 has been able to show their dominance to Australian bowlers by playing a steady inning.

India is moving well for a 400 plus score here and in a pitch where average 1 st inning score is 309 ,It would be a very competitive score if India can acheive it.

Pitch did not assist Aussie bowlers much as they expected and they will surely have to take few quick wickets here to stop India take the game away from them.

2 nd Test Sri Lanka vs New Zealand:Live updates

Fist hour of the second day was filled with action as New Zealand were able to bowled out Sri Lanka for just 104 runs by taking 6 quick wickets.

When the day started Sri Lanka were having 6 wickets in hand with a deficit less than 100 but  they could not get any momentum to their inning after they lost Roshen Silva when the score was 94.

Last 5 wickets of the inning were taken for just 10 runs courtesy of remarkable bowling by Tim Southee and Trent Boult.

Trent Boult was able to take 6 wickets for 30 runs while Southee took 3  wickets for 35 runs.

Anjelo Mathews was able to saty unbeaten at 33 and he was the highest scorer for Sri Lanka.

1 st Test South Africa vs Pakistan:Live updates

South African bowlers are doing pretty well here at Super Sports Park as they have been able to send 6 Pakistan batsmen to the dugout back for 87 runs.

Batsmen at the middle are Babar Azam on 10 and Mohammad Amir on 1 and they are having great responsibility in their shoulders to take Pakistan to a respectable score.

Average 1 st inning score at Super Sports Park is 334 and Pakistan are so far away from that.

But if they can atleast get onto 200 from here they might be able to challenge South Africa to make a game out of it.

3rd Test India vs Australia: Live updates

Indian opener Mayank Agarwal and one down  batsmen Pujara has been able to build a very good platform for the rest of the batsmen to come as per now as they have now added 113 runs for 1 wicket here in Melbourne.

50 overs are already over here in the Boxing day and India seems like they are planning a slow progress toward 300 runs mark that can let them possible to put pressure on Australia.

Mayank Agarwal is playing a great hand here for the progress of the Indian 1 st inning score as he has added on 66 not out as per now.

Pujara who is on the other end has added 33 runs at the moment and looks like both batsmen are very comfortable in the middle.

Australia will surely need a wicket or two quickly as possible to stop India take the game away from them.

2 nd Test Sri Lanka vs New Zealand :Tea Break analysis

The second session looked even in performances for both teams as New Zealand were able to add 100 runs odd in the session while Sri Lanka was able to get few wickets and at the end of session score board showed 175 for 8..

Looking at the overall match we can say Sri Lanka still are on top of the game as pitch seems like it has become more helpful for batsmen and look like it is easing up a bit with some of the shots played by New Zealand tail enders.

But Sri Lanka could have get all the wickets of New Zealand for even less than 100 or 120 odd but they could not stop the flow of runs and it swung the momentum back to New Zealand.

But few wickets at end helped Lankans to get the momentum which they lost by giving free runs.

Average score here in 1 st inning is 308 and  from here New Zealand should look at a score around 250 to stay alive in the game .

In Sri Lanka's point of view they should try to take other 2 wickets quickly as possible as they can minimize the score as much as possible in this seamer friendly pitch.

3 rd Test India vs Australia:Lunch break analysis

It was a good first sesssion for India after choosing to bat first as they were able to ended up with minumum damage and was able to get 57 runs on board.

At the end of the session India are 57 for 1 wicket and Hanuma Vihari was the batsmen who got out to a short ball by Cummins for 8 runs.

Being new to this level Mayank Agarwal applied himself well and was able to be stay unbeaten on 37 at the end of session as Pujara is in the other end on 10.

Pitch looks good for batting and anything around 300 would give India a good chance to compete well in this match.

Watch the live action after the break on our website.

2 nd Test Sri Lanka vs New Zealand :Live updates

Sri Lanka is completely dominating New Zealand here at Christchurch as New Zealand is struggling to get any kind of momentum to their inning infront of powerful Sri Lankan pace attack.

They are currently 72 for 6 wickets and  batsmen at the middle are BJ Watling on 19 and Tim Southee on 2.

Sri Lanka has gone with 3 different kind of Pacers in Lakmal,Kumara and Chameera for the test and Suranga Lakmal has become the main Weapon for the Lankans as per now as he has taken 4 wickets for 28 runs in their 15 overs.

Lahiru Kumara has got the other wicket and Ross Taylor was run out.

New Zealand will have to try at get anything around 150 to 200 here in this green pitch and hopes they can bowl as equal as Sri Lanka to get their momentum back

But captain Tim Paine hinted a possibility of including Handscomb again for the 4 th test by saying Sydeney pitch would be much helpful for the spinners and Handscomb is one of their best batsmen wo can play spinners pretty well.

He has been suffering from a Shoulder injury during the New Zealand series and was not able play the 3 rd Test.

Pakistan were hoping him to recover for the South African series but he has not able to recover from it yet.

Also Shadab Khan is also not available for the first test due to an injury .

But Fakhar Zaman is fit again after missing few tests and expected to play the first Test against South Africa.

With absence of Abbas Shaheen Afridi,Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali will be the options in fast bowling department as per our view and we expect them to play 1 spinner and Yasir Shah is the most likely option as we guess.
